I. Background

My learners

I am teaching only one class, grade 8 students. They are all girls. They are about 24 students in the class. They are 14 years old. They are coming from the same environment so they are having the same social backgrounds.  It is a mixed ability class. It is a very challenging task for me to teaching them because of their different levels. I have 4 outstanding students, 14 average students and 6 underachievement students. They also have different learning strategies which I should but in my consideration when I plan for my lessons.

Physical Classroom Environment

The classroom is too small so students are sitting in groups of 4. There are not any electronic devices inside the classroom. We have to go down stairs to the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) or Computer Lab if we went to use any of the electronic devices like overhead projects, proximas, smart board, computers, CDs rooms and so on. Teachers can borrow these devices and bring them to their classes but they have to book it first. They are about one overhead projector, three proximas and three laptops. Teachers prefer to bring their own laptops; they just borrow the other devices. Moreover, there is a white board, a cupboard and a wall Panel. There is a wireless internet connection in the class but students do not have laptops. In addition, they are not allowed to bring them to the school. When they need to use the internet they should move to the computer lab or LRC.

About this blog

This blog is designed to help students to improve their pronunciation skills. The idea of this blog came up because of the difficulties that my students face in reading. They can not pronounce words correctly because they do not know the right sound for each letter. I decided to teach them letters and their sounds, sound system, phonetic transcription, and so on. When their acquire them fully we will move to words level. This means I am going to teach them how to pronounce words after combining letters together. after that we will move to paragraph level and then texts. I collected some educational videos and worksheets to use them inside the classroom. I also collected some links to some educational websites which we will explore them during the lesson. Students can explore them at their home. I hope by the end of this project, they will be able to read correctly.
